Friends

Sometimes, I feel the need to live the life I don't actually lead.

This morning, I decided I was going to lead the life of a person that hangs out in coffee shops. Maybe you know this person or this kind of person. I grew up in Michigan in the 90's watching "Friends" so this person has a certain aura of romance attached to them. Or at least an aura of a good hair-cut.

For the 90's, anyway.

I went to the first coffee shop right down the street from me. I like this place. Apparently, so does every one else in my neighborhood because they were all there.

"No, no! This place is too crowded!" So, I left.

Coffee shop number two. Really expensive coffee, almost completely empty.

"Do you have internet?", I asked.

"No. We don't have any counter space so we have a no laptop policy."

What are these people thinking? Don't they know the market they are missing out on?!

"Try across the street." She told me.

So I did. Nice coffee shop, internet, good coffee...but only one power source that didn't...(wait for it) work.

"Do you have any place I can plug my computer into? It is very old and the battery-"

"No, I'm sorry. We don't. It's obnoxious. I know." said the very nice barista. But saying that doesn't make it any less obnoxious.

I stayed there for the 20 minutes my battery lasted. Then I left and returned to coffee shop number one. Still very crowded. I managed to get a seat near a plug that was behind an atm machine. I thought, "this will be okay!" It wasn't.

Turns out the coffee shop doesn't want you putting your plug behind their atm machine. What a waste of a plug!

The only other plug near the seat I could get was being used by a web designer designing things for pregnant women to buy for their babies. I say this because she was pregnant. Maybe she was designing things for women who had babies or friends of women who had babies. And the fathers of those babies. I didn't ask.

All in all, I thought it would make an okay blog post, and I had some really good coffee from two different places. But the most important lesson I learned is this:

The TV show "Friends" is nothing like real life.

This makes me rethink everything.
